Yes, i know teya re expensive, and sometimes are the only thing tat works, btu tere are other methods to repel insects.

Fly Masks, are great to repel flys away from eyes.

Rugs will stop the insects biutting much of teh horses body, boidy rungs protect kore compared to a light coller rug

Garlic, this is used to fight infection, but also repel the insects, just loike garlic repels humans, lol, it works in the same way, just a teaspoon a day or per feed, will make the horse healthy and will start to be secreated through teh skin, repeling teh insetcs, dont use molassas, as insects are attracted to sweet things.

Hope this helpsHow do u make insect repellent for a pony?
There are a lot of homemade recipes you can try. I have never used any of them but many of them call for similar ingredients so you can buy them and try them out without having a lot of waste- a lot less expensive than commercial products.

In addition to the links below, I have also heard of using just apple cider and vinegar (equal parts).

I would also recommend a fly mask, as they are fairly inexpensive and help keep flies off the face. Fly sheets (for the body) do the same thing but they don't keep them off the legs which is usually the more troublesome area and they can cause a horse to overheat in hot weather, even though they are meant to breath.

Good Luck!
Its got vinegar in it!
15ml citronella oil

cup of cold strong tea

2 tbs methylated spirits

2 tbs washing-up liquid

2 tbs vinegar

then top up to 2 litres with water

smells horrible but cheap and effective
citronella is good for deterring insects.

guessing you already have a fly fringe on her?
Well, I use fly masks. And I use insect spray, adn you should know if you own a pony, you should be able to look after it properly and if it needs something, you have to get it.
We use to use Skin So Soft by Avon, works real good, as I remember you can dilute it a little with water to make it go further. Put it in a spray bottle or wipe it on
think tea tree oil is good for hair, and the smell deters insects. However if you can afford a pony, you should be able to afford to look after it properly.
