Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?

I'm going to Uganda in the summer, so will require some repllent. The bands look like a good idea and would be easy to use, but are they a bit glorified?Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
Hi,

I have been to Zambia 3 times so far- all of which have coincided with the rainy season! I have always found that for me, the spray isn't always 100% effective, but last year, I used a cream which worked nearly perfectly! I haven't used the bands before, but I have used the coils, which seem to work very well. If you are buying anything with DEET in, opt for the higher %, as it will work much better, and should last longer- if possible, try to get the 100% DEET.

You should try to avoid getting bitten as much as possible: make sure that all windows are closed BEFORE sun-down; in the evenings, wear long sleeved tops and trousers, where possible use a mosi net, before going to bed, do a 'bug check' to make sure there are not any mosis lurking around and of course, make sure that you take your anti-malarial tablets. If you do happen to get bitten, use a cream that will take the sting away- like Anthisan, or just run it under cold water for a couple of minutes- the hotter you are, the worse the sting! Some of these tips are basically common sense, but malaria is a deadly disease, and shouldn't be taken lightly- some of my friends have had malaria, but were fortunate enough to have had medical attention.

Hope this helps!Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
I suggest that you get the highest percentage of deet in whatever you buy ,I personally have not seen the bands ,wipes dry out fast ,a spray can go all over ,lotion are just messy ,keep in mind flight regulations buy the bands and spray that way you have two in case the spray in not flight regulated .
(I am in Uk ) for holiday

I brought from boots the chemist the insect repellent containing 50% deet, the nurse reccomened anything with at least 40%deet.

spray is best as its more effective and better coverage, it feels bit sticky but drys nice and doesn't smell to bad.
The best answer is the little tubes of 100% DEET with the spray pump. You can find them at WalMart. Easy to use and compact.
