How about Deep Woods OFF? It has the highest concentration of DEET and works VERY well for us when we go camping or walking around the river park near our home. Supposedly - if you eat LOTS of garlic, they'll stay away, but I think that's more of an old wives tale and not a real solution.Good mosquito repellent for phillipines and india?
First off mosquitos have nothing to do with what you eat.

There are lots of them in almost every Indian city.

Option 1: 100% safe way is to use a mosquito net.

Best way to get a mosquito net in India ( and I guess same for Philipines) would be ask someone there to buy one for you from the general market. Locals would know where to get it. Its available in every city. But ask someone for the shop or better have someone buy it for you. Would cost you arounf $5 at the most.

Options 2: This is not 100% proof though. Use a liquid vaporiser repellent. Like Goodnight or Mortein. Its palm sized machine into which a small refill bottle containing repellent liquid is fitted. Good for a closed room. Little good if you plan to sleep in the open(e.g. roof). Normally people who dont likes mosquito nets use this one.

I stay in India and mosquitos bite all the time but I dont notice it. At max its a minor itch. At worst if you are bitten by an infected mosquito maybe a disease. BUT that happens only in unhygienic places. I am sure whereever you would stay there will be no question of bad mosquitos since you are a $ or a # person.

So dont be all that scared. Plan your other things better for the trip. Its a minor thing and take care of it when you arrive here.

My recommendation is to go for a net if you are staying at someone home and a repellent machine if you are staying in a hotel.

And yes the clothing matters. Use full sleeve pants/sleeping suits/shirts most times in the night. Daytimes(in the light) there aren't any mosquitos to bother you. These most start coming out at 6pm or so .
Well, most of them are pieces of crap and don't work at all. But here are some suggestions:

When you go out, where long pants and long shirts. Possibly even a heavy hat and some gloves. Also, when you sleep, get a portable mosquito net. They are efficient and easy to carry. No repellent really works well, but occasionally they do. I can't exactly recommend any, but anyone of them works the same. The net and clothing should help keep away any other mosquitoes. Hope you have a good time on your trip. :D
