Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?

I'm going to East Africa in the summer, so will require some repellent. The bands look like a good idea and would be easy to use, but are they a bit glorified?Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
The mo' deet the mo' better.

I use super high deet concentrates in products that can't be found in counties like the USA where they restrict the % of deet to be had(they may or may not still do this).

By the way, The active ingredient in Aerogard is DEET. For those Numpties that didn't know.

Aerogard is just the most advertised repellent product in Australia. It is good but other brands with high deet percentages are good too..

25% deet will give you about 5 hours protection before needing to re-apply. Get a lotion if it's an option and let it dry before going out.

my favorite. 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent 12 hour Lotion, 34% deet. About 7 quid.Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
I am afraid Deet is no longer considered safe, as you can see from new research which was published in Aug. In fact the higher the concentration %26amp; the more you use the greater the risk to your health! http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/46163/title/DEETs_nastiness_extends_to_humans

DEET is the be-all end-all solution to bug problems. If you're going to East Africa, I highly recommend you don't take any chances with gimmicks like the pest-repelling wristbands. DEET is GUARANTEED to keep bugs off you, and from nearly 13 years of experience camping out, I can assure you that it works VERY well. You have to be careful with it, though...DEET can do just as good a job of killing YOU as it does of killing insects, if you don't use it properly.
lol you sound just like me right before my trip to kenya. all you MIGHT need is Deet. i was there for an entire month and just used the repelent before bed time. and spreayed it around the room. bt i took like 6 packs of wipes for no reason. i think i just used one pack for cleaning my hands. and i was out there doing dirty work and around alot of ppl. just make sure to yake your anti-malaria pills. youl be fine its not as bad as ppl make it seem.
Deet is probably the most effective but it is nasty stuff so be careful using it too much. Iv'e found clothes treated with permethrin are pretty effective. Craghoppers range of Nosquito clothing is also great for biting insects.
Aerogard mate, an Australian repellant that WILL kill any bug known to man. Deet is nowhere as good. Also, in East Africa the bullets buzz around like flies so a nice Kevlar vest wouldnt go astray either.
