What is a good herbal or all natural tick repellent for dogs?

http://www.care2.com/channels/solutions/self/23What is a good herbal or all natural tick repellent for dogs?
go to all natural food or herb product store and they can tell youWhat is a good herbal or all natural tick repellent for dogs?
a good friend of mine that is a very good pet owner swears by sprinkling a liberal amount of garlic powder on the petfood each time they eat...he says it works really well and does not harm the dogs, and the dogs do not seem to notice it.
It is not possible to buy a repellant for ticks.

The best thing to do is to get your vet to prescribe something like frontline. You put this liquid, a tiny amount on the dogs neck. Anything that feeds on the dogs blood is then killed. It is an excellent product with no side effects that I have seen.

DO NOT pull a tick off your animal as it will leave the mouth parts in the skin causing infection and a possible abscess.

If ticks are a very occasional problem, your vet can remove them by freezing them.
as stated above, don't try to pull the ticks off the dog, bring to the vet, in an emergency, ticks can be removed by a drop of ';Isopropyl Alcohol'; on the tick, apply vasaline ';Heavily'; to the affected area, remove with tweezers carefully, and slowly the next day, make sure that ALL of the Tick is removed. Spring is a ticks favorite time of year, I noticed that ticks love beachy, brushy area's, so keep the Dog away, if you can.

Need a natural tick repellent for my dog?

You can try mixing a small amount of garlic into your dog's food (mix in with every other feeding). HOWEVER, DO NOT DEPEND ON THE GARLIC ALONE {FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME} YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANOTHER FORM OF FLEA AND TICK CONTROL AS SOON AS IT IS POSSIBLE.Need a natural tick repellent for my dog?
I've heard that cedar oil will work. See link below. I haven't tried it myself.

http://www.cedarcide.com/productguide.as鈥?/a>Need a natural tick repellent for my dog?
Garlic is a natural deterant although I am not sure about the application.
try garlic if you feed it to your dog or even put some poweder on him the feas/tics dont like the smell and wont bother your dog.
You can also try a pyrethrin - type product. I'm not sure if it's as natural as you want--it's a manufactured chemical that occurs naturally in chrysanthymums--which is why you see rows of c.s planted around gardens frequently. Although the product is manufactured, it is chemically identical to what you would find in the flowers. It kills as well as repels many common bugs.

Or you could make a little doggie jacket and stuff the pockets with chrys's!
try a flee and tic colar at a local pet store!!

ohh and they also make a cream you can get at a vet

to help ward off ticks

I have insect repellent to sell and not realy sure where to start to go about selling it.

Try trade shows. Around me they happen frequently. I use cig smoke and spit for a deterant, so thanks and Good Luck!

Experience with rat repellent?

Due to the gross habits of the tennants (and the neglectful attitude of the owners) of the apartment building next door to us, the backyard in my condo now has rats. We have tried to rat-proof our area (put heavy metal lids on the dumpster, etc.) but we still have rats. I wrote to our local Aldermand who seems to not give a rat's you know what about our rat problem. So, I need to get rid of the rats that are coming over from next door. One person in the condo said that there is a product called Rat-Away which is made with the urine of predators like foxes. Does anyone have expereince with a product like this in an urban setting. How do our city rats know what a fox smells like anyway? Any why would they be afraid of it?Experience with rat repellent?
that would probably work; it's just instinct.

also, call the city vector control (or find their website). there will be info on that site %26amp; also free assessment. a vector control person will come out and check the house %26amp; give you ideas to control the problem. roof rats are common in california; i've used rat poision and it works, but there is a chance they can die in the garage/walls %26amp; stink and collect flies.

first--protect the house: during daylight hours, seal all holes from the outside into your house. rats only need a hole the size of a quarter to get in. you can go to home depot or a hardware store and get some cauke for concrete or whatever the surface is. keep them from getting into the house. that is your primary concern.

second--yard: use the fox urine on the fences, building, yard, etc.; do not use poison blocks or poison pellets if there are cats/pets living in your building who might eat it.

third--get rid of bird seed %26amp; fresh fallen fruit

fourth--trim the shrubs, bushes, etc., away from the building to keep them from making homes there

fifth--flea control: make sure all the pets in the building have had their flea meds (check the size of the pet %26amp; breed first! and match the flea box--it can be deadly if given the wrong weight/dose).; rats carry fleas that carry diseases (this is how the plague killed so many). the rats can bite your pets, or you, or transfer the fleas to your pets.

sixth--clean: spray any dead rat with lysol; remove from the area w/ plastic bags; dispose of in a sealed container, or call vector control %26amp; ask them. spray any rat droppings with lysol; do not vacuum it up--the vapors are poisonous to humans; spray it with lysol, then pick it up w/ paper towels; disinfect with bleach %26amp; water or lysol %26amp; water. the urine is poisonous, too.

unfortunately, ';if you want something done right, do it yourself';. do not wait for your alderman to care!! these things breed pretty quickly. i belive it's about 3 weeks, they start having babies. talk to the owner of the building and all other tenants. work together. rats are a neighborhood problem. good luck. act now!

rats are nocturnal; they will play in your house's walls at night; defend during daylight hours %26amp; they should be outside.Experience with rat repellent?
I would contract city or county govt. and report them. Many times they will provide poison in tamper proof boxes until they can force neighbors to clean the place up.

  • Can I give my cat a double dose of Spot on flea repellent?

He has fleas. Can I give my cat a double dose of Spot on flea repellent?
No, as overdosing a cat can be fatal. Always get flea treatment from a vet and follow the instructions carefully. Can I give my cat a double dose of Spot on flea repellent?
No never double dose, it could be harmful to the kitten.

One dose is enough, you should allow 48 hrs for the treatment to start working and taking effect.

Note if the spot on treatment you are using is over-the-counter it is unlikely to be very effective. Use frontiline or stronghold.

It is important to buy a spray to treat the environment too, as fleas lay eggs in the cats bedding, in your carpets etc and can reinfest your cat with fleas again. Get the spray from a vet/animal shelter store.
Only if you want to kill him.

The flea drops are strong pesticides, and the dose is regulated by the size/weight of the cat (see the box instructions). If you double dose, the cat has a toxic overdose that is going to start destroying his liver, killing him. These are intensly strong pesticides and having it on your skin will do the same to you.

Fleas don't ALL die in two days. The ones that are in the environment and haven't bitten the cat won't be poisoned till they get back on him, so what looks like an infestation not being touched actually isn't. Remember that flea eggs will be hatching as well, for up to 3 months, making it look like fleas haven't died at all. But the dose is working and will continue to work for a good 30 days. As new ones jump on the cat they die, the dead ones all fall off, so you're going to be seeing things around till the last of them dies.
No, don't. Mostly because it will be pointless but also, if it's a spot-on treatment from a pet store you will be risking your cat's life.

Never use pet store flea treatments, they are often dangerous and usually useless (with the exception of Frontline).

If you are already using a proper flea treatment from a vets, like Frontline or Revolution etc there is no need for a second treatment within a month. If you are still seeing fleas 48 hours after applying the stuff (presuming you got it on correctly i.e. the skin) it means you need to spray your house - this is where most of the fleas are living.

If you have used a pet store flea treatment and are still seeing fleas after 48 hours it's because, as I've said the stuff won't work - and also you probably need to spray your house!

If you've used a pet store flea treatment, you need to now get some proper stuff from a vets. Ask their advice about when you can apply it; we recommend waiting a week after applying a pet store treatment, in case it interferes with the action of the proper stuff.

    Chalice
No. Most over the counter flea treatments like Spot On are ineffective, and many are downright toxic. See your vet and get a prescription topical treatment like Advantage, Frontline or Revolution. They work and they won't kill your cat like some of the over the counter ones can. If you've already applied Spot On, let your vet know when you applied it so s/he can advise you when it's safe to put the other treatment on him. You'll also need to treat your home if he's indoors. If you don't, you'll end up with an infestation. Talk to your vet about what product(s) will be safe to use in the home. Here's more information about over the counter flea treatments:

    http://www.hartzvictims.org/
No, my vet said some cats have died because they're given the wrong dosage of flea and tick medicine.

Anyone know of any mosquito repellent that's safe for babies?

My son in 2 and a half months old and he got a mosquito bite the other night and I was wondering if there are any safe mosquito repellents for him. For some reason, mosquitos are really bad right now (and it hasn't even been raining). I don't want him to get bit again because I'm afraid of diseases since he is so young.Anyone know of any mosquito repellent that's safe for babies?
We used Avon's Skin So Soft. We put a little on a tissue and safety pinned it to the inside of the baby's shirt. It cut back on a lot of them. We used the hand lotion back then and the oil. Avon has a lot of other Skin So Soft products now including bug spray. You can buy it online now too. They call it SSS now.Anyone know of any mosquito repellent that's safe for babies?
any kind that doesn't have DET in it is fine for babies.. Most will say on the back that you can spray on your hands and rub on to babies not to spray directly on to them..........
avoid repellents containing DEET. This is a powerful carcinogen that just happens to also repel mosquitos. People are getting skin cancer from this chemical.
I know skin so soft lotion is fine. That is what works best for us. Also most kid sprays (off brand etc.) will also be fine for babies.
Not too long ago I went on a trip with my baby girl, who by the time was too young to use mosquito repellent on her. I ask her Ped and he told me to spray on her vinegar - yes, plain vinegar like the one used for salads- diluted in a bit of water. Well, the smell isn't the greatest but I can tell you it worked. It actually worked so well that, at the end of day #1 hubby and I stopped using our mosquito repellent and used vinegar during the hole vk's. So it is worth a try, just apply it where the clothes don't cover and he'll be fine.
I heard that by simply putting a dryer sheet through a belt loop on attaching it somewhere to your clothes can repel mosquitoes. I haven't tried it though, but my friends have and say it works.

Is there bug repellent that is safe for baby?

spray the clothing the child is going to be wearing before you put him in it...don't forget the areas around the collar and sleeves.

also if you are spraying on the go.. just cover his face and hands with a blanket or cloth..

use that skin-so-soft brand. if a little does get on baby, its safer than the other brands.. less abrasive to little one's skin.

    good luck

Is there bug repellent that is safe for baby?
There is no bug repellent or sunscreen safe for a baby under 6 months. They can absorb the effective chemical into their bloodstream. Buy mosquito netting or only go out at times when the mosquito population is at its lowest in the day. I also found that if outside, a portable fan helps to lower mosquitoes trying to bug you.Is there bug repellent that is safe for baby?
i ask my doctor this and all of them said that there was no real over the counter bug repellent suitable for children under the age of two- my sopn is 16 months and we've looked up some natural things to use which would be much healthier. they also said try to stay away from area that might be breeding grounds for misquitos
My dad takes my 4 month old son outside all the time and he was getting bit by bugs. We read that if you have a few scented dryer sheets in your pockets that the smell repels mosquitoes. He puts on tucked into his pants or diaper and it has helped a ton.

One of the most effective ways to protect against mosquito bites is by using insect repellent with DEET. However, these products should be used with caution.

    See.

Actually yes, there are bug repellents made for baby. Just make sure you read the bottle it will say right on it if it's safe!

Is there mosquito repellent for dogs?

I live in a very wooded area with tall grass and a spring near by, so there's mosquitos everywhere! I know that Advantix does the job for fleas, ticks, and mosquitos, but he's allergic to it. I use BioSpot instead, but it doesn't have protection for mosquitos. Is there mosquito repellent for dogs?
I would use a pyretherin based fly/mosquito repellent from your local feed/tack store.

I use this on my dogs, as we live on a ranch and of course have flies.

Always read the label of course to make sure there is no warning against using it on dogs.Is there mosquito repellent for dogs?
    Yes! ';Flys-off'; It works wonders!
As mentioned above, I use a ';pyretherin based fly/mosquito repellent';, brand name ';Shield'; which is available at almost any horse supply store. It is made to be misted directly on an animal.
BioSpot is as bad as Hartz! Don't use it!!!!!!

Try Advantage or Revolution. You could even use Frontline.

As far as I know, they all protect against skeeters.
aw. poor doggie! um.. i don't really know because i live in the city.....sorry

    How dos mosquito repellent work?

After spraying Off! all over, I feel a little suspicious if it actually works. ): Just got bitten three times. (on my foot too!)How dos mosquito repellent work?

  • Natural bug repellent for toddler at night?

My son keeps getting bug bites while sleeping. These are not bed bugs. We have a plastic mattress and wash blankets in hot water. I think they are just little mosquitos but is there something I can put on his skin before bed that will repel the bugs and stop them from biting him? Something all natural?Natural bug repellent for toddler at night?
I've always used vanilla extract. It actually works and bugs can't stand the smell of vanilla. Another one that works is peppermint oil (look in your baking/spice aisle at your grocery).

Products like Avon are not natural at all (and it doesn't work, I've tried it) and citronella oil is NOT meant to be put on skin but burned in candles or set out as a repellent in the air, but not on skin.Natural bug repellent for toddler at night?
Citronella oil, Pennyroyal oil, are both good natural oils that can be deluited with water and smell nice and usually dont irritate the skin, you can rub a small amount on the inside of the wrist to see if it doesnt suit your child. If it bubbles or shows signs of rash dont use...it works for us even on camping trips with LOTS of mosquitos! Hope it helps
I don't know how natural it is, but yesterday I got the tip that Listerine repels mosquitoes. In the past, I also heard that B vitamins and Brewer's Yeast do the trick, but that would be hard to administer to a toddler. Try rubbing him/her down on the skin with Listerine.
I get the Skin -so -soft and mix with water 1/2 %26amp; 1/2 and I also put it on our dog works really, really great just on neck and shoulder blades. Also save baby jars rinse %26amp; Clean good

get some basilleavees(Spanih section of grocery store) put some in each jar repells any kind of bug..Do not put in crib. I put some under our bed as I don't want fleas...

    Best of luck....
You can try a bug lotion or spray, but I've heard from a friend that a dryer sheet keeps bugs away. I haven't tried it, but she swears by it, and takes it wherever she'll encounter mosquitos. Wouldn't hurt to try!
    Citronella oil

    It costs about $6.00

    http://www.healthinajiffy.co.uk/images/b鈥?/a>

The EPA considers oil of citronella as a biopesticide with a non-toxic mode of action.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citronella_鈥?/a>
It's not all natural, but Avon's ';Skin So Soft'; lotion is a good repellent and it is good for baby's skin.
Neem is also another natural product you could look into getting.
Skin so soft sold by Avon. Works great for bugs, without all the terrible chemicals! You can buy it online just google it.

Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?

I'm going to East Africa in the summer, so will require some repellent. The bands look like a good idea and would be easy to use, but are they a bit glorified?Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
The mo' deet the mo' better.

I use super high deet concentrates in products that can't be found in counties like the USA where they restrict the % of deet to be had(they may or may not still do this).

By the way, The active ingredient in Aerogard is DEET. For those Numpties that didn't know.

Aerogard is just the most advertised repellent product in Australia. It is good but other brands with high deet percentages are good too..

25% deet will give you about 5 hours protection before needing to re-apply. Get a lotion if it's an option and let it dry before going out.

my favorite. 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent 12 hour Lotion, 34% deet. About 7 quid.Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
I am afraid Deet is no longer considered safe, as you can see from new research which was published in Aug. In fact the higher the concentration %26amp; the more you use the greater the risk to your health! http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/46163/title/DEETs_nastiness_extends_to_humans

DEET is the be-all end-all solution to bug problems. If you're going to East Africa, I highly recommend you don't take any chances with gimmicks like the pest-repelling wristbands. DEET is GUARANTEED to keep bugs off you, and from nearly 13 years of experience camping out, I can assure you that it works VERY well. You have to be careful with it, though...DEET can do just as good a job of killing YOU as it does of killing insects, if you don't use it properly.
lol you sound just like me right before my trip to kenya. all you MIGHT need is Deet. i was there for an entire month and just used the repelent before bed time. and spreayed it around the room. bt i took like 6 packs of wipes for no reason. i think i just used one pack for cleaning my hands. and i was out there doing dirty work and around alot of ppl. just make sure to yake your anti-malaria pills. youl be fine its not as bad as ppl make it seem.
Deet is probably the most effective but it is nasty stuff so be careful using it too much. Iv'e found clothes treated with permethrin are pretty effective. Craghoppers range of Nosquito clothing is also great for biting insects.
Aerogard mate, an Australian repellant that WILL kill any bug known to man. Deet is nowhere as good. Also, in East Africa the bullets buzz around like flies so a nice Kevlar vest wouldnt go astray either.

Is there a good cat repellent for my garden ?I?

I have potted Plants on my deck and a lovely garden with a fountain and beautiful shrubs and the neighbour's cat comes in and distroys the plants and shrubs . I do not want to harm the cat but I want him out of my garden ....StumpyIs there a good cat repellent for my garden ?I?
There are a lot of things you can do such as:

    1. motion activated sprinklers

    2. moth balls

    3. cayenne pepper

    4. coffee grounds

    5. citrus rinds

    6. commercial cat repellent

    7. vinegar/water mixture sprayed on the areaIs there a good cat repellent for my garden ?I?
    Yes.....a large dog.
The first line of defence is to ensure that your yard boundaries are secure. Any gaps in your fence should be blocked to deny low level access. But cats can jump so fix a taut wire or string some six inches above the top of your fence to deter this approach.

Once inside your garden many people say that the best cat repellent is a dog who will soon see off any feline invader. If you are not a dog lover then you will have to resort to more passive methods. Since cats like to lie on freshly dug soil you should lay mulch on your borders so that no bare soil is left exposed. Seed beds should be covered with wire netting or twigs arranged as a barrier.

Young trees should have plastic guards fitted around their trunks to protect them against use as a scratching pole. Your garden pond should be covered with netting to keep your fish safe.

Cats are generally known to dislike water so a well aimed bucketful or a squirt with the hose will certainly make an intruder run. After one or two dousings it may learn the lesson and stay away.

To protect plants and borders both mothballs and citrus are said to be effective deterrents. Place the mothballs, orange peel or lemon rind in the borders. Alternatively spray cloths with orange scented air freshener and place the cloths around the plants you wish to protect. Other known cat repellents are cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, eucalyptus oil and mustard oil.

Certain herbs are said to deter cats. In particular rue but not catmint which has the opposite effect. Coleus canina is another plant which is marketed by one merchant as a cat repellent.

The broadcaster Jerry Baker has suggested treating your yard with a tonic made from chewing tobacco, urine, birth control pills, mouthwash, molasses, detergent and beer. A smallholder has reported success using dried rabbit blood but you may feel that the ingredients listed in the previous paragraph should be tried first.

If you visit your local garden center or hardware store you will find several cat repellent products on sale. These range from electric water sprinklers and ultrasonic devices to sprays and granules.

Motion activated sprinklers act in the same way as a burglar alarm using an infra red detector. When the cat enters the area covered by the detector the sprinkler shoots out a jet of water to scare the animal away. It is claimed that, after one or two encounters with the jet, the cat will learn to avoid the area.

Ultrasonic devices emit a high frequency sound which is annoying to cats (and dogs) but is not audible to humans. There are various different models some of which operate continuously and others which have an infra red detector and only emit a pulse of sound when the cat triggers the device. To be successful you need to ensure that the model is powerful enough to cover the area you wish to protect. In addition make sure that the sound frequency is designed for larger animals since some models are intended to deter insects and so would be no use for cats.

There are also commercial scent cat repellents. Those that use chemicals should be kept away from any food crops but the essential oil based granule varieties act in the same way as orange and lemon peel mentioned above. Another way to keep a cat out if the garden is a repellent evaporator which consists of a container holding puffed rice which has been impregnated with essential oils. These are effective for three to four weeks and can then be refilled for a further period. Another natural product which many people claim really keeps a cat out of the garden is lion's dung. You may need to visit your local zoo to obtain this although some stores do stock zoo poo.

In Ontario, Canada the local township provides a cat trap service. Once the animal enters the cage it cannot escape but is completely unharmed. The owner has to pay to recover his pet and so should be encouraged not to let the cat stray in future. Apparently few owners bother to reclaim their cats but just obtain another kitten. However this sounds like a good way of dealing with a cat that cannot be deterred by any other method. If there is no such scheme in your area, just buy your own trap.

So, to recap, the first priority is to secure your boundary fences. Then you have the whole selection of suggested cat repellents ranging from homemade recipes to expensive commercial gadgets. I would suggest that you try the orange peel and prickly twigs for a start. If you are around when the intruder appears, try the bucket of water or hose. Even if you miss, the shock may be a sufficient deterrent. If these do not do the trick, then you may have to consider the commercial alternatives.
call animal control. your neighbor HAS to keep control over their animals.
A cat hateing dog. LOL They make stuff to help keep cats out of gardens, but I have never unsed them, so I don't know if they work, but my grandmother swore that mothballs will keep them away. Another thing is to get a motion sensor light and rig up a plug and put a loud horn or radio on it and put it out there. My dad uses this to keep deer out of his vegetable garden. He has a light and a radio out there, turned up real loud.Good luck.
You can use moth balls. sometimes that works because they don't like the smell of it.
I know this may sound silly but put ciane pepper in your garden it wont hurt the plants and the cat wont come near your garden they hate the smell of it that's how i keep my cats out of my plants. ONE

  • What is a good hunger repellent?

I'm 15 years old trying to get in shape and i'm making mad progress. As a person who has lost weight, the thing that takes me down is hunger. I want to know what are some good hunger repellents. Can anybody list me some? What is a good hunger repellent?
drink alot of water, it will make you feel full, and it is good for youWhat is a good hunger repellent?
Hunger is because you ate something in your last meal that caused your insulin to spike and it needs another 'fix'. If you follow these guidelines you will do a lot better and will not have the cravings in between meals and will eat enough at meals to stay satisfied. I sometimes had to eat even when I did not want to.

This is a healthy way of eating that will help lose weight or just maintain weight depending on how many times you stray from the structure.

You can lose 10-25 pounds in one month... safely. Just follow these rules. There are also several recipe books and recipes on her web site.

I lost 92 pounds, down from 325 lbs. The first week I started eating this way I lost 8 pounds... but it was probably because I was so big to begin with.

    The rules are...

    Food group 1

    Fats, meats, oils, cream, butter

    Food group 2

Veggies (no avocado or potatoes or carrots, these turn immediately to sugar when they hit your saliva).

    Food group 3

Carbohydrates, rice, pasta, potatoes, non fat milk.

    Food group 4

Fruit, eat only in the morning, on an empty stomach, about an hour before breakfast, not after. Don't eat it at night.

Rule... eat anything from group 1 with anything from group 2.

Rule... eat anything from group 2 with anything from group 3.

Rule... Do NOT eat group 1 with group 3.

Rule... No soda, caffeines, whole milk, yogurt, avocados, bananas all of these have fat and carbos so when you want to lose weight don't eat them. Afterwards you can.

Picture this in your head, insulin from your pancreas is secreted, to help digest sugars, and anything digested with it will be 'stored' as fat. So if you want the pasta and bread, don't have the butter or oil or meat, instead have a marinara tomato sauce, or sauted veggies with garlic, no oil or butter with carbos... remember.

I hope this helps and if you need any help on this let me know. I will be glad to help.
Brush your teeth, Chewing gum, drink plenty of water, do things to take off your mind like tidy up, shower, homework (lol).

Also, try and eat things that will keep you feeling not hungry throughout the day like weetabix or something.

    Hope that helps. xx

Do you have to use theugg stain and water repellent or can you use an off brand one?

My bought an off brand one for me for christmas...I know cause i saw it.Can i use it? ITs from the walking company!Do you have to use theugg stain and water repellent or can you use an off brand one?
I used a different brand and my uggs look fantastic in year two of having them.Do you have to use theugg stain and water repellent or can you use an off brand one?
well, if you just saw that it was from the walking company, it could be ugg because they sell ugg products there. if you saw the specific repellent and its not ugg, then you shouldnt use it on uggs. you didnt specify, however, if you have ugg boots. so if you dont have ugg boots, dont use ugg spray because the ugg spray is for real sheepskin.

What are good tips for staying bug free besides repellent spray?

Bathing with soap and water on a regular basis, for one.

Electronic rodent/pest repellent? Does it work?

I've seen the commercials about the plug in electronic repelers they're supposed to set waves into your walls that keep away rats, ants, spiders, etc... but do they work? If so which ones ? I need opinions from ppl that have tried/used them. 10 pts for best answer! It's important. Second person got bit my a spider at my house already and had to go to the hospital. So this is very important to me. Thanks! Electronic rodent/pest repellent? Does it work?
We have tried several sonic repellents. None of them appeared to have any effect. For spiders, we found the most effective approach was a good lawn and garden pesticide in the yard and garden areas. This keep bugs from getting in as they never make it through the yard to even get to the house.

    Once in the

As for the interior. We bub-bomb twice every year. Once in spring when we spot the first spider and once in the fall. This combination even does a great job of keeping the flies at bay!

Electronic rodent/pest repellent? Does it work?
I and most of my family have used them. We have tried 3-4 differenet kinds. NONE have worked for us. We still have mice and insects. I even put two in a tack room with closed doors and mice run rampid. My sister-in-law put some in her house and the mice come in every fall, plus the spiders. If you do find one that works please let everyone know.

What is the best roach wall repellent ?

My friend has a really bad roach problem and we believe they are coming from neighbors of hers. I saw the commercial for riddex plus and thought I would ask for her on here what is the pest name brand and product for those wall repellents and do they actually work before she spends her money cause the rental complex said that they would not spray her neighbors apartment without the req coming from the people living thereWhat is the best roach wall repellent ?
She could be sure to seal up every hole and crevice with some kind of metal wool (copper/steel), especially around pipes. Then, along each edge she can put borax and roach traps. If she's seeing them, it's already in her apartment.

  • Is there a pet safe insect repellent that I can use when I go fishing or camping.?

Does anyone know of a moth repellent that's cat-friendly?

My friend has three indoor cats and is wondering if there's a natural repellant which won't upset the cats. Would burning a cedarwood oil help? Any other ideas?Does anyone know of a moth repellent that's cat-friendly?
Cedar. You can get cedar balls, cedar flakes, and cedar blocks.Does anyone know of a moth repellent that's cat-friendly?
If it's for inside the closet they sell cedar paneling.

My entire closet is paneled in cedar and I'm very friendly.
Cedar chips or you can get cedar balss or blocks...This wood is a natural moth repellent....
Cedar-lined-everything is very expensive. I rubbed cedar oil in my wooden drawers and (yay) my cat won't sit in there either.

How do you make cat repellent and urine cleaner?

I need to know becaus one of our cats is jealous of the new kittens in our house and is urinating all over our house, please help!!How do you make cat repellent and urine cleaner?
Ordinary biological (enzymatic) washing detergent mixed with warm water is best for cleaning up as the enzymes break down the fatty deposits contained in cat urine. (It's when these fats begin to decay that causes urine stains to smell so bad). After cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water and allow to dry. Then use a plant mister to spray surgical spirit (disinfectant cheap at the chemist) over the area and work it in with a nail brush. This will remove any remaining trace of her scent that will prompt her from marking in the same places. I don't know what type of flooing you have, but this web site has further advice on removing cat urine from all types of surfaces.

    http://www.celiahaddon.co.uk/pet%20probl鈥?/a>

I'm assuming that you want to keep the unhappy cat away from the kittens. Could you do this by confining the kittens to a separate room until she becomes more accepting of their presence? Cats are territorial by nature and can become very anxious when new pets arrive because they worry that they are going to be replaced. Scent marking is their way of letting other cats know ';I have a right to be here';. Feliway can be very helpful in calming a tense atmosphere because it mimics the friendly scent found in cats facial glands. It works by building up a sense of well being in cats, so it can sometimes take up to 3 weeks of continued use before you begin to see the benefits. This link has advice on introducing cats which may be helpful to your situation.

    http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac鈥?/a>

Please don't use mothballs as a deterrent. They are highly toxic to cats, and even if they only brush up against them and then lick their fur, this could have serious consequences. How do you make cat repellent and urine cleaner?
Supposedly club soda works well for getting rid of urine in carpet (and maybe upholstery). Saturate the sport with soda and leave it alone. As it dries the urine evaporates. I don't know if this works on hard surfaces.

As far as repellents go, strong odors will often do the trick. Place moth balls (provided the cats won't eat them) in areas you don't want him to go, or try spraying a strong perfume or air freshner in the area.

Really, though, you need to get to the root of the problem - his relationship with the kittens. This information should help: http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/catintro.pd鈥?/a>

And, Feliway spray is worth the investment (about $20 - $25). It is a synthetic pheromone that reduces urine marking.

What is a good mosquito repellent to use when touring Alaska?

Most all repellent contain DEET and how well they work and how long they last is a function of the percentage of DEET.

15-20% lasts for 1-2 hours works okay, often feels nicer because the other 80% is lotion.

    30-40% lasts about 3 hours.

70-100% lasts about 4-6 hours and is the greasiest of the options. Also the most potent, so if you're traveling light, a small contain lasts longer.

Best deal I know of on 100% is at REI stores or at www.rei.com. Search on ';DEET'; It is a member-owned co-operative. I'd pick this one because it the (non-aerosol) pump is handy and 2 oz of 100% costs less than most companies charge for 1 oz. :

    http://www.rei.com/product/669551?cm_re=鈥?/a>

Uncle Ben's 100% is just as good but usually double the price.

There is some concern about kids and high-percentage DEET. Some groups recommended 25% max on kids and reapplying more often.

    Now the important, local insights:

Keep it in a zip-lock bag! It is oily and can dissolve some clothing. You don't want it all over your stuff.

You can't take aerosol cans on planes. You need to check it. Best to check any kind - you won't need it in the airport!

You can get it up here. There's an REI store in Anchorage (Spenard Blvd and Northern Lights), but any supermarket or Wallmart will have something. As will many gas station and all fishing/hunting supply stores.

Friendliest set-up I saw was in Cordova where the rental car company at the airport has a bin of all the stuff you can't fly with (bear pepper spray, fuel cannisters, aerosol DEET, etc). On a loaner basis. Take what you need, return what you don't use.

DON'T PUT IT ON until you see bugs. Many times, you don't need anything. If you're in town, or on a lawn, or airport there are no bugs. And if it's windy, they aren't hunting. I only put on DEET 3-4 times a year. If I'm hiking, I just keep moving and they don't bother me. Only when you're still and there's no wind, and you're near bushes and wet ground is a problem. Okay, that is MOST of the state, but, again, wait until you need it, just keep a 1 or 2 oz container in a ziplock in your pocket.

I'd suggest one 1- or 2-ounce container per person for the whole trip. If you are doing a lot of outdoor hikes, you can also restock on the way.

People report some success with Avon ';Skin so Soft';. Seems to help, but not as well as high percentage DEET in my experience. Skin so Soft is certainly cheaper per ounce and not as nasty if it spills on everything. What is a good mosquito repellent to use when touring Alaska?
I would use the same repellent regardless of where I was traveling. I live in British Columbia and use Off! whenever I go camping and have been happy with it. I know that many people swear by an Avon product called Skin-so-soft.What is a good mosquito repellent to use when touring Alaska?
I have found a couple. Off! is always good, Avons Skin So Soft is also wonderful, however Deet is the best I have found. We went in the end of June and no bug bites here! Good Luck!
Depends on where you will be. If you're in heavy mosquito areas, you should use deet. If you're just going to be in towns and populated areas, I'd say go with Off.
Anything with a high Deet content is best. Something like Deep Woods Off, would work well.

What is the best bug repellent?

Musquitos love me, i cannot go one day without getting about 100 bug bites when i go outside. Does anyone know of a really strong bug repellent i can put on?What is the best bug repellent?
First, the reason mosquitoes love you is that you are ';B'; vitamin deficient. Go to: (800) 370 - 3447 and order the Max Stress ';B'; product and take 1 tsp. per day. Also order the probiotic and take one in the morning and one in the evening and I think you will love the results.

Also, you can use Canola Oil to rub on your body and the bugs hate it. They know how bad it is for you. It was developed for machine oil applications and the Canadian Government decided to lower the Euricic acid in it and feed it to humans. It's terrible for you to eat, but makes a great bug repellant because bugs knows how bad it is for you.

  • What kind of experiment could i use to prove that lanzones' peel in an effective insect repellent??

please help me! it should be done by monday! What kind of experiment could i use to prove that lanzones' peel in an effective insect repellent??
What kind of insects are you planning to repel?

I have a couple of suggestions: get some flypaper to trap your insects. You will need two pieces. You will also need some ';bait'; to attract the flies. I would suggest either some raw meat or some soft fruit, depending where you are in the world and what sort of insects are around the place. You could also use sugar water.

Place your bait in the middle of the flypaper. (Both pieces). Place the lanzones' peel around the edges of one piece and not the other. Put both pieces (with bait and lanzones peel) out in an exposed place. You should separate them by a good distance - at least a couple of metres, so that the lanzones peel won't repel flies from the control.

After a set length of time, like 24 hours, count the number of insects on each bit of flypaper. You could also count at several timepoints like 1, 2, 5, 10 hours if you want extra points on your homework!

What are the effects of prolonged exposure to insect repellent sprays to humans?

Bzzzzzzzzzzz...BzzzzzzzzzzzzzzWhat are the effects of prolonged exposure to insect repellent sprays to humans?
I am afraid Deet is no longer considered safe, In fact the higher the concentration %26amp; the more you use the greater the risk to your health! Each year over 200 000 ppl die from pesticides! Safer alternative is ';incognito';. You can read about it on avoidingbites.com

What are the effects of prolonged exposure to insect repellent sprays to humans?
There is evidence of nerve/neurological damage but it depends on the ingredients used
Probably a serious rash. And possible carsinogenic problems.
I know a gut that worked on a farm.

He has skin cancer from the industrial bug spray.
There are two main insect repellant/killers: one is pybuthrin, extracted from the African pyrethum plant and is relatively harmless-

COMPARED WITH chloro-thio-phosphate based materials, related to eg, phosgene, the WW1 poison gas, that are associated with nerve damage, mutations and death.

You don't want to be in prolonged contact with any chemical that has a repellant/toxic effect on any animal, no matter how safe the makers claim it is!

They're only after your money and will tell you anything to get it.

Looking for a dog repellent, possibly ultrasonic, that i can attach to my fence?

i have a neighorhood dog that keeps getting in my yard no matter what i do, and it bothers my dogs. is there anything on the market that can keep this dog out of my yard for good? i've seen ';trainers'; but i'm guessing those are only for handheld use and wouldn't work in my situation. don't get me wrong i don't want to hurt this dog, i just want it to stay the hell out of my yard and leave my dogs alone.Looking for a dog repellent, possibly ultrasonic, that i can attach to my fence?
When the dog gets in your yard, if you can keep it there until the police arrive (call them) then what they'll do is go get the owner %26amp; have a little talk with the owner while the owner is getting his dog out of your yard. The conversation will be that if it happens again, there will be a ticket and/or fine. A police had that conversation with me. Believe me ... my dog never left my own yard again. That's all it took.Looking for a dog repellent, possibly ultrasonic, that i can attach to my fence?
Simply call the cops, or your shelter. No dog should be roaming a neighborhood.
Id have a talk with him .If that does no good call dog catcher..

    Good luck......
Talk with your neighbor about their dog. If it continues have Animal Control come out and remove the dog. Most towns/counties have ordinances about 'dogs at large'. One trip to Animal Control and the fines they will pay should really stop the problem. In my county, it's $50 for the first and then it goes up $100 each time after.

Wasps in my car hood.. What natural wasp repellent to make them leave?

I've got a problem, there are like 3 small wasp nests in my car hood.. As I am a Buddhist, I'd rather not kill them if possible, so instead, I am looking for some kind of natural repellent that'll make them want to go away... Any advice??Wasps in my car hood.. What natural wasp repellent to make them leave?
Hahah! How did you manage to get 3 nests under the hood? Did you breed them there? Sorry, but there isn't a repellant. If you don't use a kill bomb, you are getting stung. If you were fast with a hose, you MIGHT get one nest knocked out, but 3? Try a fire extinguisher. Not a water one, or a foam one, but the refillable CO2 extinguisher. That might do it if you get someone to pop the hood one step and you shoot the CO2 under the hood before opening it all the way. If they are nested under the hood, they are coming after you as soon as you open it, and the cold CO2 may take care of them long enough for you to pop the nests out..Wasps in my car hood.. What natural wasp repellent to make them leave?
I've had good luck with smoking them out. I just started a wood fire in a little Smoky Joe bbq cooker and then snuffed it almost shut (made it smoke a lot)....then directed a piece of tubing from the smoker right into the area with the wasps. They had moved on in a few hours! (...and it didn't kill 'em).

    Good Luck.....and watch 'em!
the only thing i can think of is a good, solid shot of water from your hose.

this may drown them, but it avoids the use of chemicals.

i understand your position, however, sometimes we have to protect ourselves and our belongings. don't want you to get stung.
    That's a tough one.

Repelling them may work, but then there may be developing larvae inside the nests.

I had a huge nest of Vespula Maculata (paper wasps) removed and relocated years ago, but that required bee-keeper's equipment and quite a bit of tedious handling of a large, heavy nest about 1-1/2 times the size of a basketball.

If these are the little mushroom shaped paper nests, I'm not sure if they can be relocated (maybe break it off and super-glue it under the eaves of your house?)

I dislike killing things too, so I understand your predicament. If you can get past the destruction of the larvae, a garden hose will do the trick - just be sure to run away after you knock each nest down.
Stash some mothballs in there somewhere. They'll leave.
What I am unable to understand is why not kill them?

Should I use CITROBUG or WATKINS insect repellent on my skin?

try skin so soft by avon this works good for us and our pets good luckI am looking for a good tick repellent for my 2 year old.?
You have to talk to your pediatrician:

They know the area, the brand that is best for the area you live in (all ticks and states are different)

Also, they know exactly how much your 2 year old weighs, that affects which brand of repellent he should use. As they get older/larger, they need more coverage....

    Good luck!
i live in florida and as most people know mosquitos here will pick you up and fly off with you if your not careful. so i was concerned with using bug repellants with DEET in them. i asked my sons doctor and he said it was fine as long as it wasn't sprayed on his hands.

he's two now and the doctor told me this when he was about 15 months old or so
Just kill the 2-year old, it'll resolve a lot of problems later.

Not that I know of, but there is a addative you can add to stains. One such product is NBS-30. In can be ordered online with the link below. I bought it, it has a very strong citrinella smell, had no insects at all for a good two months. Is there a deck stain or paint that acts as a wasp-repellent?
No, actually the smell of the stain or paint will attract wasps. The best thing to do is try to find out where the hive is and get rid of it.Is there a deck stain or paint that acts as a wasp-repellent?
Yes. Get a Linseed Oil based stain or paint.

I accidentally discovered this several years ago when we put up a new building at the apartment complex that I managed for six years.

All of the buildings (including the new one) have wooden siding.

I waged war in the original buildings with squirrel %26amp; bee/wasp infestation.

When it came time to paint/stain the new building, we somehow (I do'nt remember exactly how) ended up with a Linseed Oil based paint/stain. I managed that complex for several years after that building went up %26amp; never had any problems with squirells or insects.

The new building was put up using the exact same materials as the originals as they were'nt that old either, so the only thing I can say is the paint/stain acted as an excellent repellant.

    Hope this helped, good luck!!
    No.

Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?

I'm going to Uganda in the summer, so will require some repllent. The bands look like a good idea and would be easy to use, but are they a bit glorified?Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
    Hi,

I have been to Zambia 3 times so far- all of which have coincided with the rainy season! I have always found that for me, the spray isn't always 100% effective, but last year, I used a cream which worked nearly perfectly! I haven't used the bands before, but I have used the coils, which seem to work very well. If you are buying anything with DEET in, opt for the higher %, as it will work much better, and should last longer- if possible, try to get the 100% DEET.

You should try to avoid getting bitten as much as possible: make sure that all windows are closed BEFORE sun-down; in the evenings, wear long sleeved tops and trousers, where possible use a mosi net, before going to bed, do a 'bug check' to make sure there are not any mosis lurking around and of course, make sure that you take your anti-malarial tablets. If you do happen to get bitten, use a cream that will take the sting away- like Anthisan, or just run it under cold water for a couple of minutes- the hotter you are, the worse the sting! Some of these tips are basically common sense, but malaria is a deadly disease, and shouldn't be taken lightly- some of my friends have had malaria, but were fortunate enough to have had medical attention.

Hope this helps!Would you recommend the DEET insect repellent bands, or are wipes and sprays just as, if not more, effective?
I suggest that you get the highest percentage of deet in whatever you buy ,I personally have not seen the bands ,wipes dry out fast ,a spray can go all over ,lotion are just messy ,keep in mind flight regulations buy the bands and spray that way you have two in case the spray in not flight regulated .
(I am in Uk ) for holiday

I brought from boots the chemist the insect repellent containing 50% deet, the nurse reccomened anything with at least 40%deet.

spray is best as its more effective and better coverage, it feels bit sticky but drys nice and doesn't smell to bad.
The best answer is the little tubes of 100% DEET with the spray pump. You can find them at WalMart. Easy to use and compact.

Need a good kitten furniture repellent, any suggestions?

I just got a new kitten who loves to ';go'; on my couch. would like to know if there is a good repellent to keep her off my couch. I really dont want to get rid of her, but dont have the patience to keep cleaning my couch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Need a good kitten furniture repellent, any suggestions?
A squirt bottle! Everytime she goes near the couch squirt her, she will learn, and it doesn't hurt her. Good luck, and stay consistent. My cats were never taught, and now I am kicking myself because I look like a furry cat everytime I get up off the dang couch!Need a good kitten furniture repellent, any suggestions?
its called a rolled up newspaper and you smack her with it(not hard, cause shes a kitten) whenever shes on the couch. soon, she'll get the hint ans know the couch is off limits.
clear contact paper....a hair brush full of dog hair will make her think there is a dog...spray bottle.....
There are commercial repellants available at pet supply stores.

My cat hates the smell of those sprays for sore muscles, or the decongestant gels/oils for colds, such as eucolyptus. Try putting some of this on a rag or something on the couch - I wouldn't put it on directly because it might stain.

Is it okay to spray (repellent) OFF without deet on to a dog?

Is it okay to spray off without deet on a dog ? I still find ticks on my dog even though I put frontline plus on her.Is it okay to spray (repellent) OFF without deet on to a dog?
I wouldn't use Off. Try the spray on form of Frontline Plus. It works much better than the drops for my two dogs. Occaisionally,I will still find a tick but it will already be dead.Is it okay to spray (repellent) OFF without deet on to a dog?
There are a ton of nontoxic, aromatherapeutic sprays on the market that are better for pets... and us. Please use those instead. Many pet stores carry them now. If you have an aromatherapist in your area, get them to make one up for you. Not all essential oils are good for pets so please don't use items designed for humans on your dog.
It may not be safe for dogs. You can find a natural citronella spray that's approved for dogs. I wouldn't spray it on though either. Spray it on a damp cloth and then wipe it on your dog, so you avoid his nose, mouth and eyes.
I give my dogs, JuicePlus+ for dogs and they never have ticks and fleas, except sometimes when we have a tick when we have spent time in the woods at the park. www.juiceplus.com/+Lb53116
No!!! Please speak with your vet.
I definitely would not. They have mosquito/flea/tick repellents specifically for dogs. Please talk to your vet and get the right one for your dog.
Wouldn't suggest spaying your dog with the OFF product. You can sprinkle the 5 % Sevin dust on your pet and fleas and ticks will fall off almost instantly. It would be a good idea to hose down your lawn and then sprinkle the sevin dust on your lawn to kill all ticks and fleas.
You should talk to your vet, you my not have the right size of frontline. Are the ticks you find dead or alive?? If they are all dead, it's because as soon as they bite they die, but they are supposed to fall off. If they are still alive I would check if you have the right size and then talk to your vet. I don't know if OFF is safe. It probably won't kill her if you use it once, but I wouldn't recommend it, either way, f you do use OFF you'll keep having to reapply it. Try other options and brands, talk to your vet.

  • What is the best wasp repellent?

One of the best things I have found that is economically safe is this. When you find a nest wait till dusk when all of the wasp are on the nest. Then in a cup mix up some dish soap in hot water. mix it up and take it outside and toss the water/soap mixture onto the nest and wasps. They will start dieing almost instantly. Be sure to hit all of the wasp and the whole nest though. I have done this several times. It is very effective and more environmental, I think, than the chemicals you buy at the store.

I don't know if this is exactly what you were wanting to know. Or if you wanted an actual repellent. I have never heard of a wasp repellent. What is the best wasp repellent?

Is there any plant that I could plant that would be a good mosquito repellent?

Rosemary, citronella grass, catnip, %26amp; marigolds

Good luck!Is there any plant that I could plant that would be a good mosquito repellent?
Did you know that building a small bat house in your back yard can help you keep mosquito's down in your area? A bat can eat up to 5 times their body weight in bugs per night. When a mosquito hears a bat, they generally leave the area.

Bats spook out many people, but when it comes to what really keeps mosquito's down in your area, nothing compares! It's cheap, it's easy and their poo makes the best fertilizer out there! People pay a fortune for bat guano (sp). Or bat poo.

I know this isn't the answer you were quite looking for, but i don't think there's a plant that will do the job half as good as a small bat house. As bats wake up, mosquitos run for hteir lives, literally. The bats fly off after them and leave you alone. You sit outside in your yard mosquito free and all for around 7 dollars, no feeding or trimming the plant! Is there any plant that I could plant that would be a good mosquito repellent?
Yes, there is a plant called Mosquito repellent. It is rather oily and green with pink flowers. Rub its leaves on you, it smells good and works well and is totally natural. Grows profusely.

You want citronella. Buy several -- they are an annual, and not cheap, but they work if you plant several near any seating area. And they smell really good!
yea, only one i know. Plant venus fly traps. LOTS OF THEM. their scent lures bugs to them. then crunch, feeding itme.

How much bug repellent I should take?

I am going to Ghana for 2 months and I don't know how much bug repellent to take. The most I can find is 6 oz but I don't feel like that will last. How much bug repellent I should take?
If you'll be in Accra, just buy more there. If you're going up country, bring a couple of bottles. How much bug repellent I should take?
Why do you need bug repellant. Do you use it in the US? Geez get a life it is not roaming with bugs.
    Hi Kat,

I live in Ghana, so I can help with this (I hope). Most of the problems are mosquito born diseases, and right now, we are entering the rainy season which increases the mosquito population tremendously. That having been said, over here, the real problems begin at dusk and overnight.

If you dress appropriately, i.e., in long sleeved shirts and long pants, etc., you only have to worry about dowsing yourself with repellent at your ankles (and feet if you're in sandals), and maybe on your exposed arms. Our mosquitoes are so tiny that they mostly are at ground level, and they are easily blown away by ceiling fans.

So, as to your repellent, and I use Sawyer which I got from a sporting goods store in the US, I'd suggest maybe 2 bottles, and if you run out, you can buy a repellent here, though it won't be Sawyer or even Off, it will be a local brand made from the Neemh tree, smelly but effective.

Oh, just FYI, only female mosquitoes bite, and only a very small percentage of them carry disease like malaria. Since we've moved here over 3-1/2 years ago, only one time has any of us (and there are 5 of us) contracted malaria.

Hope this helps. Also feel free to look at tripadvisor forums for some more information.

  • What has been your most efective natural Mosquito repellent when abroad ?

I live in Turkey (from Scotland) and every year the mosquitoes eat me alive. I am very allergic to there bites and swell up around the spot.

Do you know of any natural repellents as I have tried a few, like lemon or garlic, and they don't work.

Many thanks in advance. I'm itching , just thinking about them !!!What has been your most efective natural Mosquito repellent when abroad ?
    Hi there,

I'm Scottish too and probably like you, have white skin with a tinge of blue that attracts killer mozzies!

3 weeks ago we went to Goa in India and I was recommended a product called 'Buzz Off' which I bought in

    Superdrug for 拢4.99.

It worked a treat and I didn't get nibbled once.

Bit of advice though - always keep balcony doors and windows locked tight at night and no matter how tempting it is, never leave them open.

Have a great time and enjoy some sizzling kebabs! What has been your most efective natural Mosquito repellent when abroad ?
    Cheers Pal!

wierdly i let everyone else put on the repellants and they are the one's that get eaten.

when i do get bitten, i always try to have an antihistamine cream to hand. Cannot recomment this enough, a bite bigger than a matchbox will disappear in 10 minutes!
    Lavender is good.

Holland %26amp; Barrett may have something natural for you.

Did you go there to escape the midges.?
skin so soft by avon or green rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle with water stops heat and sweat.
Citronella oil, either in incense sticks/coils, candles or in an oil burner, is really good for keeping them away. There are also a couple of brands of insect repellent that contain citronella to apply to yourself - Moziguard used to be just citronella, but now I think you have to buy the one called Moziguard Natural if you want to stay away from chemical pesticides. I've heard that eating marmite keeps them away - but I've never tried that coz it's disgusting! Apparently it's the B-vitamins in marmite that they don't like, so maybe you could take B6/B12 supplements instead? Good luck keeping the wee b+++ards off you.... Hx
Citronella is the best - sprays for clothing %26amp; candles for room or out door use will keep the blighters at bay. The most effective way to avoid being bitten is to wear protective clothing (even just a cotton shirt %26amp; long trousers will be good), use insect repellents (citronella, geranium essential oil, lavender essential oil) and sleep under a mosquito net.
Yeast, yeast, yeast!! Do you like marmite? Start eating it! This really works, and as you're male you shouldn't have any problems with it (women don't want too much yeast in their bodies).
Catnip oil....it's active ingredient is nepetalactone.

You'll have to search for it, but it works.

I have found that an ammonia based mozzie pen gives instant relief after the event.... Also cures hangovers when sniffed....

Just a thought, but we feed our cat zinc tablets to repel fleas...seems to work too.
Can't go wrong with cintronella oil
when we went on holiday we were told to drink tonic water so i mixed it up with loads of things cordial and also gin it did work but i guess everyone is different hope it helps
I would try to double up on couple of these suggestion that you have gotten every time your are outside.

I would rub on Skin so Soft by Avon

    Take the B6/b12 vitamins

and I have also heard that you can rub your clothes and exposed skin with dryer sheets and that will repel the mosquitoes. And, dawn dish soap on the bite after you have them reduces the itching a great deal.
In South East Asia, they burn coils of an incense type substance. It seems to work.
I am told that eating Marmite each morning works, but i have not tried it yet
    an anorak
every year before i leave Scotland to Spain i take antihistamines for a fortnight before i go, and it works. Someone living in Greece told me your own urine helps although i haven't tried it yet.
Garlic oil capsules, but not the odourless ones. The garlic odour will be on your skin, but not enough for Humans to smell you. The Mosquitos will not come near you. I took them on my 2 tours in Australia in the hot season. It worked and I never got bitten ones and I usually get eaten alive!

    Good luck!
It's probably not convenient, but what about a net?

Where are you staying? Is it possible to close windows before dusk and are there insect screens?
I am just like you it happens to me everytime i am on holiday and i also go puffy and end up on antibiotics...The best thing to do is not to use any repellents, i found the last time i never used them i didnt get bitten..

Hope you have a nice holiday!

Is the mosquito repellent liquidator harmful to our health?

all musquito repellent manufacturers vouch for their harmlessness to humanbeings. but no study has yet been done on its long term use. though they all look safe apparently, i am sure it is unsafe for those who have respiratory problems due to allergic reactions. they need to try it out for few hours and see what effect it has on their system and if found safe, they can continue to use it. otherwise, if any adverse reactions/ side effects are found, please discard its use immediately.
    Yes .it is injurious.

If it's safe for humans it won't poison your dog, but is it practical to spread it all over your dog? Just keep him inside. Teach him to go on a newspaper. Is it safe for you to purthuman mosquito repellent on dogs?
just because it's safe for humans most certainly does not mean it's safe for a dog. dog's aren't human.

to be on the safe side just call your vet. they will be able to help you. products like frontline and advantage have a mosquito repellant in their product and are made for and safe for use on dogs. they also protect from fleas and ticks as well.
You do not ever want to spray chemicals on your dog. Just because it may be safe for humans to use does not always mean that animals can use it as well. You need to call your dog's veterinarian and ask about some recommendations for mosquito repellent for your dog.
uhhm..maybe not so good thats only for humans??!! Ok go to a vet place they will really know and help it!!!!.....

    Hooppe it helpedd....=D
Unless it states on the container that it is safe to use on pets or animals, I wouldn't use it on my dog.

Is it possible to be a boy repellent?

why should someone have to change themselves to get a guy that cant love them for the way they are?

is it possible that looks and being your self can actually repel guys, without even trying or doing anything? Is it possible to be a boy repellent?
Definitely. And the same goes in the opposite direction.

Being yourself is fine. However, please don't get stuck on the notion that you shouldn't change for anyone.

Sorry, but love is about sacrifice and compromise. This is the real world, and not some fairy tale. I don't advise putting a facade forth to fool someone into liking you, but honestly, if some guy liked to spit all the time, picked his nose and his backside, and refused to change because ';that's just the way he is';, how would you react. Is it possible to be a boy repellent?
There are guys that will like you, and there are guys that don't like you. Guys have different tastes in women, from how they look, to how they act, even to what they do (such as, smoking is a turn off for some people).

I suppose if you were really mean, obnoxious, and generally disgusting, that a lot of people wouldn't like you, but there's really no such thing as being a guy repellent.

And you shouldn't change yourself for everyone - it'll just hurt you when and if you do. Just continue to be you.
No you should always be yourself because if you do find a guy that likes you when your being someone else it won't work because he won't like you for you but who your pretending to be. You hang in there sometimes it takes some more time then you want to find the right guy for you. All the guys you've come across or even liked obviously didn't know a good thing when it was right there. Never act differently than you normally would just to get a guy because it won't last neither one of you will be happy if you do. Also no one's perfect so if your real strict on something specific (like perfect body or no spitting something like that) remember your not his mom and you should like someone for who they are as well.
If you smell like dirt and have bad breath, then yes you will repel most guys. However, not repelling and attracting guys are 2 different things. You have to have at least a few desirable qualities if you want guys to like you. Find your desirable qualities and amplify them to the world, and you will probably find more success.
Well, there are also many girl repellents out there. I am sure you can picture who they may look like.

Is it not a stretch to think then that there may be guy repellents too?
if you're really really unattractive then you will repel boys. boys and girls are very shallow.
the only guy repellent i know of is a stinky vag.
if they don't like you, obviously they aren't meant for you... kinda obvious.
    perhaps

Guys love sex. but we don`t live sex

if this is what you ask 4
nope you just havent found the right men. stop looking and youll find him
You'll repel some boys... But those guys are jerks anyways... A real man wouldn't want you to change...

What's a good mosquito/bug skin repellent to use when travelling in a tropical area?

Anything with DEET works. I've been to very rural areas in Nicaragua and Thailand and I've used standard bug spray from the grocery store, OFF- deep woods and I think that worked the best. I also bought a spray that you can put on your clothes a few days before you travel so it has time to dry that will repel bugs when you wear the clothes. That was highly potent and annoying to use. I forget the name of it but you can get it at any travel medicine clinic. Good luck! What's a good mosquito/bug skin repellent to use when travelling in a tropical area?
I live in southern Mexico and I find the best one is called AUTAN. It comes in a lotion in a tube and in a spray. I prefer the lotion as it has no odor . It is very effective and is available in grocery stores and pharmacies for less than $4.00 a tube. The best thing to use after you get a bite is called ANDANTON and is available without a prescription at pharmacies. You just rub some into the bite several times during the 1st 15 min. or so after you get the bite...and it suddenly stops itching. it also prevents the horrid swelling some of the insect bites cause. I have tried many things, and these 2 are the best. What's a good mosquito/bug skin repellent to use when travelling in a tropical area?

  • Effective repellent for wasps, yellowjackets, and hornets?

Can anyone reccommend an effective repellent (store bought or home found) for wasps, yellowjackets and hornets? I simply cannot stand them around me when I'm trying to relax outside.Effective repellent for wasps, yellowjackets, and hornets?
For yellow jackets, you need to hang traps around the edges of your property (I have 6 to 8 for 1 1/2 acres). They usually have something inside that attracts them (meat, fruit, etc.). They can get in, but can't get out!! Walk around your property and look for yellow jackets swarming around. In my area (Northern California) they build nests in the ground. Our County Agriculture Department will come out for FREE to spray the nests in the ground. (Do NOT do this yourself!!!). The County Folks always come back for a second visit to see that the yellow jackets are all gone!!

Wasps and Hornets usually build their nests next to your house, barn, etc. Spray them at night (while they are all inside) with one of the long range sprays. Start in the early spring and don't let them get settled!!!

Mosquito Control Naturally-Does anyone have an organic recipe for mosquito repellent?

Sorry I do not know the name of this plant, but there is a plant that supposedly acts as a mosquito repellent. It is meant to be planted around any area you would be outside, like a porch, deck, patio or pool. Walmart sold it for a couple of years but I haven't seen it the last few years. It smelled something awful though so maybe that is why they quit selling it.

    How does insect repellent work?

How does the chemical and physical properties of insect repellents such as DEET, Picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus help them to repel insects? How does insect repellent work?
The active ingredients in repellents make the person unattractive for feeding. Repellents do not kill mosquitoes. Repellents are effective only at short distances from the treated surface, so you may still see mosquitoes flying nearby. How does insect repellent work?
Actually, repellants like citronella, are mimics of insect panic/alarm pheromones. When they come in contact with the substance, their brain signals panic and they leave the area. DEET and other insecticides have several different modes of action, depending on the substance, that can cause them to die from poisoning, suffocation or even premature development, i.e. molting before their bodies are ready for it.
well the insect repellant acts as a neurotoxin. this means that this attacks there receptors in the insects and then kills them.

I'm going camping to tomorrow with my friends, and someone told me that mosquito repellent (or plain insect repellent) attracts bears, but I don't believe this person. Should I?Does mosquito repellent attract bears?
No. I have hiked in Bear country many times and have done tons of research as well as talked to many guides. There is no research that implies repellant will attract bears. There is a chance that a fruity perfume may bring one in close enough to investigate but basically you just need to worry about food smells. Carry any snacks in ziplock bags. Make alot of noice while hiking and most Bears will avoid you.Does mosquito repellent attract bears?
I never heard of that hes pulling your leg.
    nope!

\what is the most effective cat repellent available in the uk ?

A cat in the neighbourhood is using my front lawn as its litter !!! The owner of the cat doesnt seem to have provided one ! I've tried Pellets ,Sprays and even paprika !!!! ( ....and i'm supposed to be an animal lover !!!). Its driving me up the wall everytime i have to clean up after it - which is a gagging nightmare after it rains. It would be great to have a clean lawn and not be cleaning up after other peoples pet....\what is the most effective cat repellent available in the uk ?
Hi there...Common odours that are effective deterrents for cats are:

citrus (primarily towards cats), cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, and mustard oil.

';Havahart's Cat Repellent'; uses capsaicin pepper and oil of mustard as its active ingredients. It repels by both taste and odor, has a lemon scent.

Every animal responds differently to each of these. Some will not be phased by them and others will be quite revolting.

For training purposes they are applied on items that are to encourage avoidance behaviours and not for use with a squirt bottle as they could harm the eyes or respiratory system. Test each substance and observe to see which works as a deterrent so that accidental injestion does not occur as some could then be fatal.\what is the most effective cat repellent available in the uk ?
Ahh, if only you blokes didn't have such stringent gun laws ,you could shoot the bloody thing. Even a pellet gun works, I've had the same problem with my neighbours cats. Lets say I'm saving him money now, he doesn't have to buy cat food anymore.

Kill the bloody serial killing cats.

Anyone have a homemade natural bug repellent for in the home or outside?

marigolds work on some and citronella plants if it's for you eat garlic or take the oderless garlic pills it works from the inside outAnyone have a homemade natural bug repellent for in the home or outside?
the fragrant smoke of burning the sacred tanna leaves will repell insects and maintain your unholy reanimation at the same time, though i recomend pinning your linen wrappings in place lest your holy bandages unravell.Anyone have a homemade natural bug repellent for in the home or outside?
This might sound a little gross but it works

catch the bug that you are having problems with and grind it up with a little oil. then take this mixture and spray it on the plant. The bugs will stay away if they smell their friends dead,. This does work as i own an natural garden and do use any chemical bug spray on anything
I heard that the bounce dryer sheets are supposed to repel mosquitoes
    Cayenne Pepper
use a dry dryer sheet rub it on your hair, skin, and your clothes before you go outside it really works.............
citronella plants I got them from Home Depot
Just apply any type of body lotion or cream on your skin, it really works for me. It protects you from all sorts of bugs.

Can anyone recommend a decent Cat Repellent??

I have an open garage %26amp; cats keep climbing all over my car - %26amp; have left loads of scratches. I have a plug socket in there %26amp; have seen plug-in cat repellers, but not sure which one works best... any opinions???Can anyone recommend a decent Cat Repellent??
After you've peeled an orange or lemon, scatter the peel round the outside of your garage. Cats hate the smell of citrus fruits and will stay well away. Cheap and good for the environment. Can anyone recommend a decent Cat Repellent??
